Love Letter To Liverpool

From outside of the city these are many things the Liverpudlian girl will be known for when it comes to their way of life. They are known for looking incredible wherever they go –whether this is on a night out or just popping down to the shop. You can spot a scouse girl from a mile off. Through this project I was driven by a desire to create garments that encapsulate their desire to catch everyone's eye as well as have a fun and humorous side to them.

Looking specifically to utilise everyday objects they use during their getting ready routine. Hair rollers, clips, bobbles and makeup can be used for so much more than their original purpose. Through this project I was determined to push the boundaries of these everyday objects while still encapsulating their original purpose. Whether this was looking to create fabric out of them or using them within the garment to manipulate the fabric. Creating oversized prints and scaling up hair accessories allows me to really emphasise the most important steps of their routine, as well as show how big their pride is.

Throughout my creative process I experimented on ways to create my own fabric through using everyday objects. Taking my influence from lace and how I can create a fabric which still had aspects of the skin showing. Testing different types of bobbles and scrunchies and seeing how each of them work when layering together.

Trialing different hand embroidery, machine stitching and experimenting with digital embroidery to see all the ways I could manipulate the bobbles to elevate them from what they once were.

I landed on combining round elastic of different sizes which I had dyed to get the colour I desired with rope to give a more textured effect. These were layered with sections which I had screen printed onto using my previously made digital prints and heat pressed on.
